SUMMARY:Philippine Labor Fights Back!
DESCRIPTION:From the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP):\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a webinar on US-backed counterinsurgency in the Philippines and its impacts on the Philippine labor movement and workers struggles under the Marcos Jr. Regime. We will be joined by speakers from Kilusang Mayo Uno\, a labor center in the Philippines promoting genuine\, militant and patriotic trade unionism.\n\n Sunday\, February 4th\n 4:00pm PT | 6:00pm CT | 7:00pm ET\n Register: tinyurl.com/phlaborwebinar\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRepression against workers organizing in the Philippines continues to heighten under President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. A joint report published by the International Labor Organization and Trade Unions in the Philippines highlights recorded violations of international labor standards and rights including cases of state interference with the right to self organize through extrajudicial killings\, forced disappearances\, illegal arrest and detention\, threats and intimidation\, and terror tagging of labor leaders. While workers in both the US and the Philippines are suffering from low wages and poverty\, unstable employment\, understaffing\, inhumane working conditions and attacks on the right to unionize\, we must strengthen our solidarity between the workers of our countries and our shared fight for workers rights across the world!

SUMMARY:Protest for removal of CSA statue (please read description)
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 5:30 as we continue to protest for the removal of the Confederate statue on the Cooke County lawn.\nCommissioners have refused to take action on this item even though they acknowledge the words inscribed are a disgrace to our community.\nIn October of 1862\, the confederacy launched an attack and the greatest massacre occurred. This statue has been a spit in the face to the descendants who live in the community to this day.\nThis is not cancel culture or trying to remove history. This is about making right of a wrong that happened over 100 years ago. The confederacy launched an attack on our city\, yet honored at the county courthouse. The confederacy also said in its cornerstone speech that the black man was lesser to the white man. This was their foundation. It speaks so loudly by the words inscribed. “No nation rose so white and fair\, none fell so pure of crime”. This is also about having those who have wronged our community and the black human race not be memorized as great hero’s.\nAsk your commissioners\, and join us in the fight\, to remove the confederate participation trophy from our lawn.

SUMMARY:Defuse Nuclear War Informational Picket- Dallas
DESCRIPTION:As part of Defuse Nuclear War’s national call to action\, Dallas will answer the call to join cities across the country to say NO to NUKES! Join us as we gather in front of Representative Marc Veasey’s office for an informational picket about the dire need to defuse nuclear war!\nWHEN: Friday\, October 14\, 3:00 – 5:00pm\nWHERE: Meet in front of the JP Morgan Chase Building\, 1881 Sylvan Ave in Dallas\nThe dangers of nuclear war have increased sharply this year\, but very few members of the House and Senate have risen to the occasion by speaking out or publicly urging measures to de-escalate tensions between nuclear powers and seriously revive negotiations for nuclear-weapons treaties and disarmament measures. Picket lines across the U.S. on Friday\, October 14 (the last weekday before the 60th anniversary of the start of the Cuban Missile Crisis) present an opportunity for concerned individuals and groups in every congressional district to visibly convey their concerns. In keeping with the realities of the current emergency circumstances — e.g.\, the ongoing war in Ukraine\, tensions over Taiwan\, and the overall deterioration of relations between major nuclear powers –emphasis will be on actions that the U.S. government should take now to reduce the present-day risks of nuclear war. In the House of Representatives\, we will support the People Over Pentagon Act\, H.R.8040.\nInitiated by the Nuclear Free World Committee of the Dallas Peace and Justice Center.\n*Before leaving for the event\, please check this page for updates or in case of changes/cancellations.

SUMMARY:National Shut 'Em Down Prisoner Solidarity Rally
DESCRIPTION:The PSL joins Jailhouse Lawyers Speaks in the spirit of Abolition in bringing attention to the current and historical political struggles of prisoners and those in ICE detention to dismantle the mass incarceration system. \nThe PSL recognizes that the U.S. has political prisoners and we demand that they be set free. They are\, as Angela Davis noted in 1971\, “political prisoners in the sense that they are largely the victims of an oppressive politico-economic order.” Prisoners held in the United States for their political beliefs and activities include Ruchell Magee\, Imam Jalil Al-Amin\, Rev. Joy Powell\, and Leonard Peltier – veterans of the freedom struggle and some of the longest held political prisoners\, who are being forced to languish in prison as they age and their health deteriorates.

SUMMARY:Filipino People’s State of the Nation Address Rally
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, on the last Monday of July\, the President of the Philippines addresses the nation and reports on the situation of the country and its people. In the last 5 years of the Duterte regime\, his State of the Nation Address (SONA) has increasingly become deceitful and farcical each succeeding year. After 5 years in office and more than 1 year into the pandemic\, the Duterte presidency has achieved:\n\n– one of the longest pandemic lockdowns in the world\n– P11.98 trillion ($240B) in foreign debt\n– GDP shrinkage by 9% (end of 2020)\n– 12 million Filipinos unemployed\n– inadequate aid to Filipinos overseas\n– full vaccination less than 4% of the population\n– 9 out of 10 farmers remain landless\n– 315 peasants and advocates killed\n– 30\,000 killed from the “war on drugs”\n\nThe Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex hosts many corporations and institutions that bear heavy influence around the world. In the context of the Philippines\, war materiel produced by Raytheon\, Lockheed Martin\, etc. are used in the displacement and massacre of Indigenous people in the Philippines. Dallas-based AT&T heavily exploit the labor of call center workers across the country. And since 2016\, more than $550 million of our tax dollars have been sent as military aid to the Philippines enabling grave human rights abused detailed above.\n\nWe invite communities across Dallas-Fort Worth to rise up with the Filipino people demanding justice and to call for an end to the Duterte regime.

SUMMARY:In Remembrance of Santos Rodriguez 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Santos Vive Project invites you to a caravan for a drive thru graveside ceremony in remembrance of Santos Rodriguez. It has been 48 years since young Santos was murdered by DPD\, not much has changed for brown and black communities in the City of Dallas\, and across the nation. At this year’s annual ceremony\, we will share the story of Santos\, announce exciting developments\, and continue demanding that the City of Dallas highlights this tragic historical moment.\n \nWe will begin by meeting at Pike Park\, where Santos played as a child.\n \nWe will depart from Pike Park at 9am and arriving to Oakland Cemetery for a drive thru procession\, around 10am or earlier. Here\, Santos’ Mother Bessie and Santos Rodriguez Rememberance Coalition will collect flowers and offerings for Santos or his mother Bessie.\n \nPlease add posters to your vehicle\, and if you are able to\, bring blue and white flowers.\n \nWe ask that all participants continue to follow CDC guidelines and wear a mask\, practice social distancing and wash their hands repeatedly and often. We will also be going live on the Santos Vive Facebook page\, EcoLatino Community Radio Page\, KNON\, and several other coalition members\, pages as well.\n \nThe Story of Santos:\n \n\nOn July 24\, 1973\, officers dragged Santos and his brother\, David\, out of bed as they slept in their home\, claiming they robbed a vending machine. Officer Darrell Cain murdered 12-year-old Santos Rodriguez and was only sentenced to 5 years in prison and served only half his time. 2 and a half years for stealing the life of a 12-year-old child. JUSTICE FOR SANTOS WAS NEVER SERVED.\n \nThe Santos Vive Project is a collective community effort that comes together annually to retell the story of Santos. The mission of the SVP is to create a memorial in the City of Dallas. Each year\, they organize a ceremony to tell Santos’ story and continue screenings of the Santos Vive documentary. Any and all donations donated are given directly to Santo’s Mother\, Bessie.
