As I write this, our country is fighting wars in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. It is helping to fuel conflicts in Libya, the Philippines, Somalia, the Ukraine, and many other places around the globe. We are heading into the home stretch in the 2020 presidential election, and we are facing the real possibility that Donald Trump will attempt to make up his deficit in the polls with a new military intervention. The situation is very serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are committed to building an antiwar movement, in solidarity with the victims of US wars abroad and at home, and of telling the truth about American military adventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A hundred years ago, when the US invaded a country, the excuse was to bring civilization. The methods of \u201cbringing civilization\u201d involved widespread slaughter, torture, and war. A country could be forgiven for not wanting civilization of that sort. Today, the excuses have to do with human rights and democracy. The methods haven\u2019t changed very much, and \u201chuman rights\u201d are being brought to Syria and Iraq by dropping bombs on civilians. The US is helping the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia \u201cbring democracy\u201d to Yemen by supplying Saudi Arabia with bombs which have been used to target even a school bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The real reasons for the wars haven\u2019t changed very much either: America\u2019s wars are about plunder, profit and power, as almost all wars have been throughout recorded history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
