This statue has been a spit in the face to the descendants who live in the community to this day.<br \/>\nThis is not cancel culture or trying to remove history. This is about making right of a wrong that happened over 100 years ago. The confederacy launched an attack on our city, yet honored at the county courthouse. The confederacy also said in its cornerstone speech that the black man was lesser to the white man. This was their foundation. It speaks so loudly by the words inscribed. \u201cNo nation rose so white and fair, none fell so pure of crime\u201d.
